A common unit of measurement in Chemistry is the mole, which represents 6.02 x 10^23 particles. This is a HUGE number, which is used to make counting tiny atoms and molecules easier for chemists worldwide. On October 23rd (10/23) from 6:02am – 6:02pm, the chemistry students at Mira Costa High School celebrated National Mole Day. To kick off the celebration, students were required to sew their own themed stuffed ani”moles”, due on Mole Day. Students arrived to class that day with many wonderfully creative moles including “Mole in One”, “Mole-cha Frappuccino”, “Mole-zart”, "Mole-y Cyrus" and “Finding Ne-Mole”. They were so proud of their artistic creations. Students also enjoyed eating guacamole and molasses cookies that day while listening to “Rock n’ Mole” music. Mrs. Nielsen even provided temporary mole tattoos for the students to wear that depicted moles exclaiming “We Dig Chemistry”.
